Mason Stadujar starts the MLS Homegrown match against Chivas
Mason Stadjuar starts against Chivas during the most recent installment of the MLS Homegrown game. The game ended in regulation as a 2-2 draw and the homegrown players earned the win via penalties. This game holds a special spot in our hearts as Mason was a player for Chris Barocas while at Orlando City B. "Mason is a phenom as a person first and foremost. I don't know anyone that is a harder worker than him. What he has had to deal with and overcome in the past couple years is nothing short of remarkable," states Chris. Barocas was referring to Mason dealing with multiple injuries in 2017 before being diagnosed with cancer. "He picked up a strained quad just 3 days before our first match of the year. He was slated to be the number two GK at that point for us. It was just poor timing because he had to wait 2 years to get his first action which delayed his development. We kept in touch a lot over the past couple years and I give him advice and try to help him grow. We are getting ready to start training again this offseason," said Chris.
Chris and I have stayed in Contact since he left Orlando. We regularly text back and forth, he’s always there to give me advice on goalkeeping and answer questions I have. He was there through my whole Cancer treatment process always checking in on me and making sure I was doing ok. I am very excited to get to work with him this offseason and really hone in on my technique and movement with him 1 on 1.
Maverick Boring headed off to college at Georgia Southern University for preseason in early August after several years of training with our program. He is now getting the opportunity to compete on the NCAA D1 level. He trained with us at our week long camp shortly before departing to preseason. "I have been training with Coach Barocas for over six years. Prior to my training with him, I had no genuine experience with goalkeeping, nor did I possess the skills necessary to excel in the position. However, Chris’s attention to detail and technique has consolidated my fundamentals as a goalkeeper and extended my development as I strive to reach new levels. Implementing some of Chris’s most basic teachings to my daily training has allowed me to improve and master many of the more advanced facets of goalkeeping over the years. I now have the opportunity to compete collegiately at a Division 1 program as a result of Coach Chris’s endless dedication to his goalkeepers," stated Mav.
