Louis Liberatore, newly appointed Director of Goalkeepers at Tennessee Soccer Club, joins The Goalkeeping Network as one of the up and coming goalkeeper coaches in the country. He brings a wide-array of coaching experience to the table; from youth to the collegiate formats. His passion for the position and desire to develop goalkeepers is apparent in everything he does.
In June 2019, Liberatore began a new role with the largest youth club in the Nashivlle, TN area, Tennessee Soccer Club as Director of Goalkeepers and will look to build on the foundation laid by Eric Vaughter. He will work with Vaughter to make TSC the premier location for goalkeepers in the region to learn, grow and develop their passions for the goalkeeping position and the beautiful game.
Prior to joining TSC, he spent two years at Orlando City Youth Soccer as the Director of Goalkeeping; continuing and building upon the foundations laid by The Goalkeeping Network co-founder, Chris Barocas. From 2017-2018, the goalkeeping program at OCYS continued to flourish with goalkeepers committing to play in NCAA Division I, II, and III programs including; Georgia Southern, University of South Carolina, University of Central Florida, Troy University, Lincoln Memorial University, and Salem College. During his time with the club, he oversaw the promotion of 5 goalkeepers from the ECNL program into the OCSC Development Academy program and worked alongside Lloyd Yaxley, Goalkeeping Coach of the NWSL’s Orlando Pride within the 1stteam set up.
While in Orlando, Liberatore was fortunate to guest coach with the Houstan Dash of the NWSL; when their goalkeeping coach could not travel. During this time he was able to work with USWNT pool goalkeeper, Jane Campbell and Mexican WMNT GK, Biancca Henniger. He has also coached Ashlyn Harris, Haley Kopmeyer, and Lainey Burdett of the Orlando Pride.
He had a brief stint with the Northern Kentucky University Men’s Soccer program and Cincinatti United Premier before accepting the OCYS position in 2017. During his time at NKU, he helped recruit Jim Barkei who recently side with USL Championship side Memphis 901 FC following his senior year. While at CUP he worked within their goalkeeper training program.
Liberatore spent three years at Binghamton University with the men’s soccer program under the tutelage of Paul Marco. During his time in Vestal, he mentored Robert Moewes to back-to-back America East Goalkeeper of the Year seasons. Moewes was drafted in 2017 by Toronto FC and currently plays for AC Barnechea in Chile.
Prior to joining Binghamton Universty, he began his full-time collegiate coaching career at Frostburg State Univeristy in Maryland. He spent two years in Frostburg working with both the Men’s and Women’s Soccer programs as their goalkeeping coach. In his first season, the women’s team won the 2012 CAC tournament and advanced to the first-round of the NCAA Division III national tournament.
Lastly, Liberatore has recently begun is coach education career and is working with the United Soccer Coaches to develop the next generation of goalkeeper coaches within their Goalkeeping Diploma programs. In January 2019 he apprenticed under the program’s National Director, Lisa Cole, and National Staff, Chris White for the first time. He is looking forward to providing more coaches the opportunity to better themselves through these diplomas in the Greater Nashville area.
